An external consultant for the Major Accident Hazards Bureau (Space, Security and Migration) at the EC Joint Research Centre in Ispra (Italy) performing hazard and risk assessment, risk-based inspection, preparing Safety Reports, land use planning and external emergency plans related with hazardous establishment falling under the Seveso Directive.
Collaborating with international governmental organisations and Competent Authorities in implementing the technical aspects of the Seveso Directive. Collaborating with TÜV Rheinland as risk specialist for the Middle East area (Qatar, Kuwait, Iraq).
Highly experienced, Lorenzo has acted as Project Team Leader in the EuropeAid Technical Assistance to the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) in strengthening the institutional capacity and improving the disaster and emergency management system. Also as project team leader in the EuropeAid Project to strengthen the Turkish administrative and institutional technical capacity in implementing the Seveso II Directive. As a researcher at the Major Accident Hazards Bureau (Institute for the Protection and Security of the Citizen) he has worked at the Joint Research Centre in Ispra (Italy).
As a member of the European Commission’s Technical Working Groups on ‘Land Use Planning’ and ‘Accident Reporting and Analysis’, Lorenzo has been responsible for maintaining the European Commission’s Major Accidents Reporting System. While a researcher at the Nuclear Safeguarding Unit (Institute for the Protection and Security of the Citizen), also at the Joint Research Centre in Ispra (Italy), he was involved in the areas of nuclear non-proliferation and nuclear safeguarding as well as chemical and nuclear safety.
Until recently, Lorenzo was a visiting Fellow at the Safety Systems Research Centre of the University of Bristol (UK) with research interest in process modelling and uncertain evidence management to increase the dependability of safety critical systems and to improve their performance.
