Katja is a specialist in Security and Disaster Management. A professional, strategically minded, resourceful and pragmatic lawyer with practitioner, military, commercial, academic and civil society experience gained over approximately three decades.

She has operated in many different national and international contexts, including at the governmental and intergovernmental levels, including with the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR).

Previously she served as an officer in the UK's Royal Navy, both operationally deployed as well as a legal adviser, managing a large team of personnel and high-value assets in a busy, reactive and operational environment, as well as an associate professor at the University of Reading, UK.

She is an accomplished, internationally recognised and award winning researcher and author.

An international lawyer by background, Katja is unusual in having deep subject-matter expertise in security (especially counter-terrorism), disaster risk reduction / management and resilience. Such expertise is of particular relevance to Katja's primary focus on man-made and technological risk which often engages these paradigms simultaneously, enabling potentially significant gaps and vulnerabilities to be identified and impactful solutions to be delivered to clients.
