Since his retirement he has been operating as a management consultant and has most recently been engaged in carrying out an Independent Review of Training within London Fire Brigade.

He has a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) and is a Fellow of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE). Robert was awarded the Queens Fire Service Medal for distinguished service in the 2015 Birthday Honours.
