Christopher Benson Health System Resilience Specialist

Chris is an accomplished Emergency Preparedness, Resilience and Response (EPRR) professional with over a decade of frontline and strategic leadership experience across the National Health Service (NHS) in England, ambulance services, and regulatory bodies. Currently serving as the EPRR and Business Continuity Lead for NHS North West London, Chris oversees this function across one of the most complex health systems in the UK. This includes leading the annual EPRR assurance process for all commissioned health services, directing multi-agency preparedness, and managing responses to incidents ranging from cyberattacks and pandemics to terrorism and severe weather events.

Previously, Chris held senior roles within the London Ambulance Service, including Paramedic Incident Response Officer, Quality Governance and Assurance Manager, and Compliance & Standards Manager. His work has encompassed strategic policy development, tactical command, major incident coordination, and regulatory inspections. He has provided expert advice to the Care Quality Commission and Health and Care Professions Council on health system resilience, ambulance operations, and paramedic practice.

A subject matter expert in incident management, Chris co-chairs regional NHS forums on cyber resilience and training and exercising development. He represents the health system at multiple Borough Resilience Forums and supports Local Authority event safety planning.

Academically, Chris holds an MSc in Leadership & Management in Health, a Diploma in Health EPRR, and the Certificate of the Business Continuity Institute (CBCI). He also volunteers as the Director of Events for the Institute of Civil Protection and Emergency Management, and has previously worked part time as a University Lecturer at the University of West London teaching ergonomics and human factors.
